Today was a driving day. We said goodbye to our spacious resort in Killarney and went north to an old house in Oughterard (north west of Galway). Rather than drive straight there we headed for Grange Stone Circle in Lough Gur. As you might imagine, stone circles are in the middle of nowhere, so a lot of the day was spent driving on twisty narrow lanes.
Ireland has a few different road types: M (motorways, like our interstates), N (national roads, like US routes), R (regional roads, fairly small), and L (Local roads, which are tiny). We were mostly on the first three, but we did have some long stretches on Ls today. The L roads are a lot like the single-lane roads we have in the hills around Livermore, except they usually have stone walls on either side of the road. Luckily, most of the time we were on Ls we were alone and didn't have to share the road. For reference, I think the above was an R street, since the center lane was marked.
